The 12th-ranked Princeton field hockey team will look to bounce back from a tough loss on Tuesday night when it hosts Brown and Villanova this weekend at Class of '52 Stadium.
Princeton had its six-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night following a 5-0 loss to No. 2 Maryland. After a slow start, the Tigers played well in the second half, but could not crack a stingy Maryland defense before the Terrapins put the game away late. The loss was just the second of the season for the Tigers, who are now 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the Ivy League. Both losses have come to teams ranked in the Top 5 nationally. Princeton's loss marked the first time in 28 contests that the Tigers were held without a goal, dating back to the final game of the 2006 season in a 3-0 loss to UConn in the NCAA quarterfinals.
Princeton held steady at No. 12 in the STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll last week. Princeton is 2-2 this season against ranked teams with wins over Penn State and Albany and loss to UConn and Maryland. The Tigers have one ranked opponent, American, and teams receiving votes?Cornell and Villanova?remaining on their schedule.
Princeton will look to get another winning streak going this weekend when they host back-to-back games on consecutive days for the first and only time this season. The weekend starts with an Ivy League contest on Saturday against Brown and concludes with a non-league game against Villanova on Sunday. The games are the third and fourth of Princeton's season-long five game homestand, which will conclude next weekend against Harvard.
The Tigers open the weekend on Saturday against Brown in the 32nd meeting between the two Ivy schools. Princeton leads the all-time series 22-8-1 and is 13-1 in games played at home.
