Volleyball Prepares For First-Place Showdown With Yale
October 17, 2008 | Women's Volleyball
Princeton has won 18 straight Ivy League women's volleyball contests, the most for any program in Ivy history. A 19th straight win would go a long way in helping the Tigers to a second straight league championship. Princeton (9-2, 3-0 Ivy) travels to New Haven to take on first-place Yale (10-3, 4-0) Friday night during a third straight league road weekend for the Tigers.
The women's volleyball team has been perfect through three Ivy League matches, winning all nine of its sets at Penn, Columbia and Cornell. Middles Lindsey Ensign (.427) and Cathryn Quinn (.394) rank first and second in the league in attack percentage, while reigning first-team All-Ivy setter Bailey Robinson leads the league with 11.22 assists per set. Ivy League Player of the Year Parker Henritze ranks seventh in the league in kills with 3.14 per set and first in aces (0.41). In two matches against Yale last season, Henritze averaged 20.5 kills and 18.5 assists in a pair of 3-1 wins.
Either Princeton or Yale ranks first in five of the seven major statistical categories in the league (attack percentage, opponent attack percentage, kills, assists and aces). The Bulldogs are led by Alexis Crusey, who ranks second in the league with 3.93 kills per set, and Ally Mendenhall, who is third with 10.32 assists per game. Yale has already swept its home-and-home series with Brown and pulled out home wins over both Dartmouth and Harvard.
Following Friday's match at Yale, Princeton will head to Providence to take on Brown Saturday at 4 p.m. The Tigers will finally make their home debut next weekend when they host Harvard and Dartmouth, beginning Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. against the Crimson.
