Volleyball Makes Home Debut With Friday Showdown Against Harvard
October 24, 2008 | Women's Volleyball
Freshmen Cathryn Quinn and Hillary Ford broke into the starting lineup for the Princeton women's volleyball team in early September; now, in late October, they will finally get to play a home match. Princeton, currently one half game behind both Cornell and Yale, will make their 2008 Dillon Gym debut against the upstart Harvard Crimson Friday at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Princeton will take on Dartmouth College at 4 p.m., also at Dillon Gym.
Princeton, the defending Ivy League champion, is 10-3 on the season and 4-1 in Ivy League play. The Tigers have played all five league matches on the road this year and split against the current league co-leaders, Cornell and Yale; the Tigers swept the Big Red 3-0 in Ithaca and fell 3-0 last weekend to Yale. Harvard is 8-10 overall and 3-3 in Ivy League play, making Friday a near must-win for the Crimson. Dartmouth, which nearly pulled out a 3-2 home stunner over Princeton last season, is 6-10 overall and 2-4 in league play.
Princeton and Harvard have been two of the top defensive teams in the league this season. The Tigers have limited opponents to an Ivy-low .168 attack percentage, while the Crimson rank second with a .198 opponent attack percentage. That Crimson defense will be challenged by the Tiger offense, led by first-team All-Ivy setter Bailey Robinson, as Princeton leads the Ivy League in hitting percentage (.234), kills per set (13.51) and assists per set (12.63). Senior middle Lindsey Ensign, also a first-team All-Ivy performer, ranks sixth in the league with 3.12 kills per set and leads the Ivy League with a .431 attack percentage, while reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Parker Henritze is seventh in the league with 3.07 kills per set and first with 0.47 aces per set.
Princeton begins a four-match homestand this weekend; on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, the Tigers will welcome Columbia and Cornell to Dillon Gym. Live stats for all Princeton matches are available online, and you can sign up for TigerZone to see live video of each match.
