November 10, 2008 | Women's Soccer
PRINCETON -- Princeton's 12-2-2 record and share of the Ivy League title gained notice from the NCAA Division I women's soccer tournament selection committee, which granted the Tigers an at-large berth Monday night.
In a four-team grouping hosted by Virginia, Princeton will meet West Virginia Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the first round while the host Cavaliers, the No. 2 seed in the 16-team UCLA region, will take on Patriot League champion Army at 5 p.m.
It is Princeton's ninth NCAA tournament and first since 2004. Princeton made the postseason in 1982, 1983 and annually from 1999-2004.
Princeton and West Virginia have never met on the soccer pitch. The Mountaineers finished their season with a 13-2-6 record and advanced to the Big East tournament semifinal before falling to Connecticut on penalty kicks. Princeton and West Virginia had two common opponents this season in Towson (both won) and St. John's (both tied).
