The Princeton women's hockey team makes its first road trip of the season this weekend to Central New York to face Cornell and Colgate in league action. Princeton currently stands 1-3 on the season following losses to Dartmouth and Harvard a week ago.
Last weekend the Tigers were on the short end of losses to Ivy rivals Dartmouth and Harvard. In both games the Tigers fell behind early and rallied late to make the finals close. On Friday, Dartmouth raced to a 3-0 lead through two periods before Princeton scored twice in the third period in an attempt to come back. Freshman Heather Landry scored both goals in the game and junior Stephanie Denino had an assist on each.
Princeton fell into a bigger hole the following day, trailing by as many as five goals, 6-1, midway through the third period. Princeton scored the game's final three goals and pressured late but could only get as close as 6-4. Freshman Paula Romanchuk and sophomore Sasha Sherry each had a goal and two assists in the loss. Junior Maddie Endicott had a goal and an assist as well.
Sherry's three-point performance kept her atop the Tiger scoring charts. She now has five points on the season with two goals and three assists. Romanchuk has four points with Landry and Denino having three-points apiece. Princeton freshmen have accounted for six of the team's four goals and 10 of the team's 28 points.
Princeton resumes action on Friday night at Cornell looking to stop a two-game losing skid at the hands of the Big Red. Princeton was swept by Cornell last season, falling 7-4 at home in November and 3-2 on the road in December. Princeton is 39-21-2 all-time against Cornell and holds a 15-11 edge in games played in Ithaca. Cornell is 2-1 overall this season and opens league play against the Tigers. The Big Red swept a series at Vermont two weeks ago and lost at home to Robert Morris last week.
The Tigers finish the weekend Saturday at Colgate. Princeton swept the season series from the Raiders last year, winning 3-0 at home and 4-2 in Hamilton. The Tigers are 17-2-2 all-time against the Raiders and are 8-0-1 in games played in Hamilton. Colgate is 5-4 this season and is also opening league play this weekend. The Raiders have won four of their last six games following a 1-2 start. Colgate has wins over Syracuse, Niagara (2), Wayne State and Mercyhurst.
Princeton returns to Hobey Baker Rink for a non-league set on Nov. 14-15 against Boston University and Vermont. The team will host a ?Skating with the Tigers' event following Saturday's game and fans are invited to skate with and meet their favorite Princeton women's hockey players following the game.
