Field Hockey Closes Perfect Ivy Season, Tops Penn 5-0
November 07, 2008 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON -- Seniors Sarah Reinprecht and Holly McGarvie each had a goal in their final Ivy League game, helping the Princeton field hockey team to a 5-0 win over Penn Friday night at Class of 1952 Stadium.
The Tigers, who clinched the Ivy League title a week ago, finished the league season 7-0 and 15-2 overall. Princeton will face the NorPac league tournament champion Tuesday at home at 1 p.m. for an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Princeton ran out to a 4-0 lead within the first 20 minutes as rookie Kathleen Sharkey and McGarvie each had their team-best 12th goals of the season, while Reinprecht and Lauren Capps each had their first. The final Tiger goal came early in the second half from Sarah Reinprecht's freshman sister Katie.
Princeton's opponent in Tuesday's play-in game will either be California or Stanford. Those two teams will meet Saturday afternoon.
