Sykes Earns Ivy Player Of The Week Honors

With the week she had, Ottilie Sykes was due for some Ivy League recognition. The only question was whether it would be on offense or defense.

Sykes, a senior defender, in fact would be named the league's Offensive Player of the Week, after a four-goal, one assist performance in three games for the Tigers. Sykes, who did not have a point in the first seven games of the year, suddenly finds herself tied for the team lead in goals and points.

Sykes began her week with two goals in a 4-3 shootout loss to Maryland Tuesday and then followed that with the tying goal in what became a 2-1 win over Yale Friday and then a goal and assist in Princeton's 3-0 Senior Day win Sunday over Temple. Sykes has started every game of her career on defense and has been a Defensive Player of the Week before, also was part of a unit that allowed only 20 total shots in those three games.

Princeton will host Dartmouth Friday (5) and No. 1 Northwestern Sunday (noon). The game against Northwestern will be a rematch of last year's NCAA Championship Game, won by Northwestern 2-1 in double overtime.
