The Princeton women's hockey team begins a busy stretch of three games in five days tomorrow night when it hosts Quinnipiac at Hobey Baker Rink. Princeton is 6-0-1 all-time against its travel partner.
Princeton enters the weekend 2-1-1 in its last four games dating back to a 4-1 win against Vermont on Nov. 15. Princeton split with St. Lawrence and Clarkson two weekends ago and skated to a 3-3 tie at Boston College last Saturday. The Tigers have played eight games at home this season and just three on the road. Princeton has three more games at home in a row before going on the road in mid-December and playing nine of 13 games away from home in 2009.
Princeton has played all of its games this season against either league foes or teams from Hockey East. Princeton is 2-4 against the ECAC and 2-2-1 against Hockey East. Princeton's final two non-conference games of the season will come in two weeks against defending National Champion Minnesota-Duluth of the WCHA.
Princeton skated once last weekend and played to its fourth consecutive tie against Boston College. Princeton still remains unbeaten all-time against the Eagles at 16-0-5, but the teams have been even in the last four contests, with the one prior to that going to Princeton in overtime.
Junior Melanie Wallace had a goal and an assist in the game while sophomore defenseman Laura Martindale added two assists. Princeton fell behind 1-0 and 2-1 in the game, but led 3-2 late before Boston College scored with its goaltender pulled to tie the game with 1:26 to go. Freshman Paula Romanchuk and senior Christine Foster added the other Princeton goals in the tie.
Sophomore Sasha Sherry had an assist in the tie to remain atop the team's scoring chart with 13 points on five goals and eight assists. Romanchuk is second with 10 points as she has five of each. Wallace's nine points rank third and she ranks second on the squad with seven points.
The Tigers open up a three-game homestand against Quinnipiac that will continue over the weekend with Union and Rensselaer. Princeton is 6-0-1 all-time against the Bobcats and holds a 3-0-1 record in the series at home. The Tigers earned three of four points last season, tying 1-1 and winning 6-2. Senior Annie Greenwood scored the lone goal in the tie, while then seniors Marykate Oakley and Brittany Salmon each had three points in the win.
Quinnipiac is 2-15-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the ECAC this season. The Bobcats are winless in seven and have dropped their last six games, being swept last weekend by Yale and Wayne State. Quinnipiac's two wins came against Syracuse and Colgate and the Bobcats have a tie with Cornell.
