Finishing kick: Twice in the past decade or so has Princeton struggled through the season's first 21 games before finishing strong. In 1997, Princeton was 3-18 at this point before winning four of its last five. In 2000, the Tigers were also 4-17 before winning 5 of 7 to close the campaign.
Milestone reached: Meagan Cowher became the fourth Princeton women's basketball player to reach 1,500 points Saturday night against Columbia. Cowher's 19 points put her exactly on the number, remaining in fourth place on the Princeton all-time list. She needs 108 points to match former teammate Becky Brown '06 for third place (1,608). Only two Princeton men's players, Bill Bradley '65 and Kit Mueller '91 have reached 1,500.
Free throw record: Meagan Cowher had seven free throws last weekend to move to 307 for her career. She is in third place on the Princeton career list behind Cornielle Burt '92 (326) and Jennifer Donnelly '88 (349). Cowher is also third on the list of free throws attempted, at 463, behind Donnelly (544) and former teammate Becky Brown '06 (465).
Double-digit Berry: Jessica Berry has passed 10 points in four of the last five games with a high of 14 against Cornell last Friday. Berry has scored 55 of her 58 points this season in that five game span. She has played in seven games since returning from the fall semester abroad.
Longevity: Meagan Cowher passed the 3,000-minute mark against Cornell. Her 3,036 career minutes are almost twice as many as any other Tiger with Jessica Berry as the next closest (1,672). It is Ali Prichard, however, who has the chance to tie the Princeton record for most games played. Cowher, who missed six games due to injury as a freshman, has played 98 games to Prichard's 100. If Prichard plays the nine games left in the regular season, she will equal Andrea Razi '96 at 109 total games played.
Freshmen scorers: The trio of Princeton freshmen have combined for 10 double-digit scoring games this season, most recently by Krystal Hill. With 18 points against Cornell, Hill set a season and career high. Shelbie Pool has three double-digit games with a high of 12 while Addie Micir had five double-digit games with a high of 22 against Penn.
Don't give it away: Princeton commits a league-low 16.3 turnovers per game and has not had a 20-turnover game since Dec. 5, 2007, when it had 22 giveaways against NJIT.
Schurle's best: Sophomore Jillian Schurle set a career best with 13 points against Cornell. Her previous best was 12 set last year against Vanderbilt.
Scoring leaders: The Ivy League's top two scorers over the course of the season will meet Friday when Meagan Cowher (17.2 ppg) and Yale's Melissa Colborne (15.1 ppg) meet. The pair are also two of the last three Ivy League Rookies of the Year. The Ivy scoring champion, however, is determined by scoring in league games. There, Cowher trails Columbia's Danielle Browne 15.5-15.4 ppg.
Princeton in the NCAA rankings: Meagan Cowher is Princeton's only individual in the NCAA rankings with her 17.2 points per game ranking 61st in Division I. Princeton's highest statistical ranking as a team is 58th with 16.3 turnovers per game. The Tigers' 6.2 three-pointers per game is close behind at 59th in the country.
Tigers for threeeee: Princeton attempted 18 three-pointers each against Cornell and Columbia, bringing its streak of attempting a double-digit number of three-pointers to 22 games. The high for this year was 29 threes attempted against Syracuse, making a season-high 12.
Double-digit streak: By reaching double-digits in scoring against Cornell and Columbia, Meagan Cowher has scored at least 10 points in her last 24 games.
Watch the game, listen to the game: Princeton women's basketball is scheduled to broadcast all 30 games free of charge at www.GoPrincetonTigers.com. Video of home games and select away games is also available for a subscription. Derek Jones will once again be courtside for both of this weekend's games.
Think Pink: Princeton will join more than 700 schools and organizations taking part in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's “Think Pink” event Feb. 23 against Dartmouth. The Tigers will wear pink jerseys and fans, who will gain free admission by wearing pink, will have the opportunity to take part in a silent auction with proceeds being donated to local agencies that assist in the fight against breast cancer.
On Yale: Just as the Tigers will be entering Friday's game on a four-game skid, the Bulldogs will also be looking for a streak-snapping win. Yale has fallen to Cornell, Harvard and Dartmouth since winning its first three league games. Melissa Colborne is the only Bulldog averaging double-digit points per game at 15.1 and freshman Lindsey Williams is the team's leading rebounder at 6.3 per game. Yale's opponents are outshooting it 46.8 percent to 35.6 percent on the season and outrebounding it by five boards per game.
On Brown: The Bears will also be looking to break a losing skid this weekend as it enters Friday's game against Penn with a 12-game losing streak since its lone win over Howard Dec. 1. Rookie Sadiea Williams leads the team in scoring heading into the weekend at 7.2 ppg, while sophomore Ashley Alexander is the top rebounder at 5.3 rpg.
Memories of Pizzitola: Two years ago, the Tigers suffered one of just three losses to Ivy League teams in the 2005-06 season in Brown's gym, 49-47. Princeton cut a 14-point Brown halftime lead to as little as two with 1:29 left but stalled there. The loss helped square Dartmouth, Brown and Princeton at 12-2 and force a three-team playoff won by the Big Green for an NCAA bid.
