NEW HAVEN, Conn. ? Meagan
Cowher led the Princeton women's basketball team with 17 points but Yale had
four players in double-figures in a 78-57 win over the Tigers Friday night.
Princeton falls to 4-18
overall and 1-5 in the Ivy League while Yale improves to 6-14, 4-3.
An 8-0 Yale run overcame Princeton's
last lead of 8-7 with 12:19 in the first half and the Tigers played catch-up
the rest of the way. The Yale lead hit double-digits for the first time with
4:51 left in the half on a bucket by Mady Gobrecht, but the Tigers cut the lead
down to six at the break.
Though Princeton was never
able to close the gap, the Tigers were within five as late as 40-35 five
minutes after the break. Yale, however, answered with a 7-0 run that put the Princeton deficit in double-digits for the remainder.
Krystal Hill reached double-digits for the second time in
three games with 12 points, while Jamie Van Horne, who canned five
three-pointers, led Yale with 19 points. Melissa Colborne, who is second to
Cowher in the Ivy League scoring race, finished with 18 points.
Yale outshot the Tigers 41.3 percent to 35.2 percent and
outrebounded Princeton 51-33.
Princeton will continue the
road swing with a 7 p.m. game at Brown Saturday.
