Tigers Take Four-Game Win Streak on the Road to Yale and Brown
February 07, 2008 | Women's Ice Hockey
The Princeton women's hockey team travels to Yale and Brown this weekend looking to move into the top four in the ECAC Hockey standings. Princeton has won four straight games and is 6-1-2 in its last nine games.
Fans can follow along both games with livestats and video. The Yale game will be streamed for free on Yale's website (www.yalebulldogs.com), while the Brown game will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the Brown website (www.brownbears.com).
Princeton improved to 11-8-4 overall and 9-6-1 in ECAC Hockey with its weekend sweep of Rensselaer and Union last weekend. With the wins, Princeton gained a point in the standings on a third-place toe with Clarkson and Dartmouth, the teams that currently hold down the final home-ice playoff spots with six games remaining in the regular season. Clarkson and Dartmouth each have a 9-5-2 league mark and 20 points. Princeton is 9-6-1 with 19 points. The Tigers have a two-point cushion on sixth-place Colgate.
Princeton started last weekend with a 4-3 overtime win against Rensselaer. Princeton never trailed in the game, but had to fight off some late adversity to pull out the victory. Junior Annie Greenwood opened the scoring, then junior Christine Foster and senior Lizzie Keady made it 3-1 Tigers in the third, before RPI scored twice with the goaltender pulled. That forced overtime, where Keady again scored to give the Tigers the win.
Keady's two goals and two assists over the weekend led to her being named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week. Senior Marykate Oakley also had four points and moved within six points of reaching 100 for her career. She currently leads Princeton with 27 points this season and 94 points for her career.
Princeton will look to continue its current hot streak this weekend at Yale and Brown. The Tigers visit Yale on Friday night looking to avenge a loss earlier this season to the Bulldogs at home. That game was played on Jan. 11 and Yale's Caroline Murphy scored the game-winner four minutes into the third period. Princeton junior defenseman Katherine Dineen scored all three Princeton goals in the loss.
Yale enters the game following a 3-0 loss last Saturday at Harvard and are 1-1-1 in their last three games with a win over Cornell and a tie at Dartmouth. The Bulldogs are 9-9-5 overall and 6-7-3 in league play. Yale is currently tied for seventh in the league standings with Cornell with 15 points.
Princeton completes the weekend at 10th-place Brown. The Bears are 3-16-4 overall and 2-11-3 in league play. Brown is winless in five games, with a tie versus Colgate, the only tie in that span. Brown was swept at Harvard and Dartmouth last weekend. Princeton shut out Brown 2-0 earlier this season at home.
Following the weekend, Princeton returns to Baker Rink next weekend for its final regular season home series of the season when it hosts Harvard and Dartmouth.
