PRINCETON ? Despite an inspiring comeback attempt, the Princeton women's basketball team dropped an Ivy League contest to Cornell Friday night at Jadwin Gym, 77-73.
The loss drops Princeton to 1-3 in the league and 4-16 overall. Cornell improves to 12-6, 4-1 Ivy.
Princeton led by as much as eight points, pulling ahead 24-16 with 8:23 before halftime. But Cornell whittled away and took a one-point lead into the break at 34-33.
The contest stayed within five points until Cornell went on a 9-0 run midway through the period that gave the Big Red its first double-digit lead of the game. Cornell had a 13-point lead at 64-51 with 6:27 left before the Tigers began to chip away.
Princeton began sending Cornell to the line with regularity inside of three minutes left, and the Big Red missed just enough from the stripe that a Jessica Berry three-pointer puled Princeton within 70-65 with 1:29 to play.
Meagan Cowher came up with a key steal on Cornell's next possession and Ali Prichard converted to bring Princeton within three at 70-67.

The Tigers had a golden opportunity slip, however, after the Big Red's Gretchen Gregg missed both free throws. Princeton couldn't get a good look and lost the ball out of bound, allowing Cornell's Allie Fedorowicz to seal it on the other end with two more from the stripe.
Hill and Jillian Schurle both had career-high point totals with 18 and 13, respectively, while Berry (14 points) and Cowher (12) were also in double-figures. Gregg led four Big Red players in double-figures with 21 points.

Princeton will host Columbia Saturday at 6 p.m. as part of a celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The game will follow a sports clinic for children featuring student-athletes from many Princeton women's sports from 4:30-5:45 p.m.
