GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Junior Adrian Turnham drove in a pair of runs with a two-run homer but it was not enough as the Princeton baseball team fell 10-5 at UNC Greensboro on Sunday afternoon. The Spartans broke open a one-run game with four runs in the sixth inning to pick up the win.
Princeton scored the game's first run in the second inning when junior Derek Beckman singled up the middle to score senior Spencer Lucian, who had singled earlier in the inning for one of three hits on the afternoon.
The Spartans got the run back in the bottom of the second and then went ahead 3-1 with two runs in the third inning and 5-1 with two more in the fourth. Princeton got a run back in the top of the fourth when senior Micah Kaplan plated Lucian with a single and two more back in the fifth when Turnham's homer moved the score to 5-4.
UNCG then reopened the score to 9-4 with four runs in the sixth inning, all of which were unearned. Princeton got its final run in the seventh when freshman Matt Connor singled home Beckman.
Princeton sophomore starter David Hale took the loss. He allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings and struck out eight. Junior Brad Gemberling pitched two innings of relief and surrendered five runs and freshman Tim Feess added a scoreless inning.
Princeton falls to 6-3 with the loss and will look to take the final game of its three-game set from UNCG tomorrow evening at 6 p.m.
