PALO ALTO, Calif. -- East Carolina and Stanford took games from the Princeton softball team Saturday at Stanford's tournament with the Pirates topping the Tigers 5-1 and the Cardinal winning 10-0 in five innings.

East Carolina 5, Princeton 1
East Carolina (23-12) defeated Princeton for the second time in as many days, scoring in the early innings and padding the lead late in a 5-1 win.
Jamie Lettire (1-3) gave up 11 hits and struck out two in her complete-game effort for the Tigers. East Carolina scored a run in each of the first two innings, benefitting from four hits, a hit batter and a misplayed ball over that span.
Princeton looked to tie the game in a fourth-inning rally. Kelsey Quist and Lettire each drew one-out walks, and Collette Abbott's double scored Quist to halve the deficit at 2-1. The Tigers looked to have tied the game when Beth Dalmut's fly ball to left scored Lettire, but Lettire was ruled to have left third too soon, ending the inning.
East Carolina had three hits and a walk in the fifth inning to score a pair of runs and grab a 4-1 lead before using three more hits in the sixth to score its final run.
Stanford 10, Princeton 0 (5 inn.)
Stanford, which started the week ranked No. 5 in the nation in both the NFCA coaches poll and USA Softball poll, opened its lead early in a 10-0, five-inning win, scoring nine runs over the first two innings. Cardinal pitcher Ashley Chinn tossed a perfect game, retiring all 15 Tigers she faced and striking out three.
The Cardinal (29-2) scored three in the first inning on the help of two sacrifice flies, three hits and a walk before scoring six more runs in the second inning. Stanford pushed the lead to 9-0 on a pair of home runs, three singles, a walk and two sacrifice flies, sending all nine batters to the plate.
Princeton pitcher Michelle Tolfa threw into the second inning while getting credit for just the first, allowing six runs. Kristen Schaus came in to relieve and was charged with four runs over the last three innings, striking out one.
Stanford added a run in the third, pushing the game further into the eight-run rule territory.
