Tigers Compete At Navy Quadrangular Meet
March 29, 2008 | Men's Track and Field
The Princeton men's track team took a group of athletes to Navy Saturday afternoon and had several strong performances, including three wins in the field events, in a quadrangular meet with the host Midshipmen, Penn and Colgate.
Junior Alex Pessala was a big winner in the hammer throw, starting out his outdoor season with an outstanding best toss of 184 feet, three inches. In the pole vault, sophomore Chad Faulkner had a strong clearance of 4.80 meters (15 feet, nine inches) to easily outpace his competition Saturday.
Eric Plummer won a close contest in the shot put for Princeton, as his best toss of 54 feet, 4 3/4 inches was a close winner over a competitor from host Navy.
In the discus, Princeton had two of the top four marks on the day thanks to freshman George Abyad, whose toss of 156 feet was second, and sophomore Joel Karacozoff, whose throw of 148 feet, six inches was fourth.
The TIgers did not take many runners to the quad meet, but Princeton did get a race victory in the 400-meter hurdles, where Tom Zozokos' outstanding time of 54.17 seconds was more than a second better than the next competitor.
Host Navy won the team scoring with 209.5 points, while Penn was second with 156.5. The Tigers (123.5) easily outdistanced Colgate (98.5) for third place.
Princeton will host the Sam Howell Invitational at Weaver Track next weekend.
