TOKYO – Princeton alum Sondre Guttormsen '23 competed in the pole vault finals at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this weekend.
Representing Norway, Guttormsen qualified for the finals with a first-place mark of 5.75m, before going on to place sixth in the finals. He cleared 5.90m to match a season best this year.
Guttormsen's 5.90m also tied his own Norwegian outdoor record in the event.
This year's pole vault finals also marked the first time seven men cleared 5.90m in a single competition.
No stranger to elite international competition, Guttormsen is a two-time Olympian and a European indoor champion.
At Paris 2024, Guttormsen placed eighth in the pole vault. He also competed at the 2020 games in Tokyo.
While at Princeton, Guttormsen was a three-time NCAA Champion in the pole vault.
At the NCAA Indoor Championships his senior year, Guttormsen cleared 6.00m to tie the collegiate record.
From Norway, to Princeton, and now, to most recently, Tokyo, Guttormsen continues to shine among the world's most elite athletes.
