Tiger Men Qualify Four For NCAA Regionals At Sam Howell Invitational

It was an excellent day for the Princeton men at Saturday's Sam Howell Invitational as four Tiger field athletes earned NCAA regional qualifying marks and several other performed well on the track.
Two Princeton hammer throwers had excellent days at Broadmead Field with regional qualifying marks. Craig Pearce's toss was 198 feet, 10 inches, while Alex Pessala had a throw of 197 feet, two inches.
Shot putter Eric Plummer had the best collegiate throw on the day with an outstanding toss of 56 feet. 8 3/4 inches, well past the regional qualifying standard. In the pole vault, senior Will Byrd hit the regional mark on the nose with a leap of 16 feet, 6 3/4 inches; Chad Faulkner was second at the meet with a vault of 16-2 3/4.
On the track, Tom Zozokos outclassed the field in the 400 meter hurdles with an outstanding winning time of 52.84 seconds. In Saturday's 1,500 meters, Ben White led the field with a time of 3:58.27, one of two runners in the field to finish under four minutes.
Two other Tigers were the top collegiate athletes in their respective events on Saturday. Duane Hynes competed in the long jump and had a mark of 23 feet, six inches, easily the best collegiate mark of the day. In the 100 meters, Shafiq Kashmiri ran a 10.98 to finish tops among college runners; Ray Simnick's 11.09 was fourth.
Justin Frick won the high jump competition for Princeton with a mark of 6 8 3/4.
The Tigers will host a quadrangular meet with Penn, Rutgers and Villanova next Saturday at Weaver Track.
