
Women's Lightweights Sweep Trio Of Opponents At Windermere Cup

The Princeton women's lightweight crew swept Loyola Marymount, MIT and Stanford to complete a successful opening weekend at the 2008 Windermere Cup. Princeton, the 2007 silver medalists at both the Eastern and IRA championships, topped both Loyola Marymount and MIT to open the new season on Saturday and edged out a tough Stanford squad on Sunday.
Princeton opened a full day of racing by topping Loyola Marymount by more than 16 seconds in the first contest. The Tigers won in 7:14.40, while Loyola Marymount finished second in 7:30.50. The Tigers were successful in opening the afternoon session with a winning time of 7:43.66, while MIT finished in 8:31.90. These two schools will meet again next weekend when Princeton makes its 2008 home debut at Lake Carnegie. On Sunday, two teams who will likely meet in the IRA grand final put forth a terrific race, as Princeton (7:10.09) edged Stanford (7:12.65) to complete the perfect weekend.
The Princeton second varsity also got to compete three times and won two races. Princeton opened its 2V season with a winning time of 7:38.38 against the Cal V8 (7:51.96). The Tigers finished its second race in 7:50.65, which bested the top Santa Clara boat (8:01.02). The Tigers' only loss came Sunday, when they finished in 7:29.59 against the California Open 3V (7:10.96).
