Princeton used its strength in the field events and hurdles to win a tri-meet with Penn and Yale in Philadelphia Saturday, winning five of the eight field events and getting big contributions from freshmen in the hurdles.
Indoor Heps champion Princeton finished with 84 points, with host Penn a close second with 79 and Yale trailing behind with 39 points.
The Tigers took all 11 of the available points in the hammer throw as winner Emma Harper, Emma Ruggiero and Christine Vidmar each had a toss of 150 feet or better. The pole vault tandem of Jess Kloss and Courtney Regan finished one-two yet again, with Kloss clearing 12' 3 1/2," while Princeton also won the shot put behind Isabell von Loga and the triple jump thanks to Bianca Williams. Junior Emma Giunipero, who had also scored in the hammer, had by far the best discus mark of the day at more than 143 feet.
Meanwhile, on the track, Princeton won both hurdle events. Freshmen Lauren Barber and Bianca Mathabane went 1-2 in the 100, with Barber winning in 14.58, while Katie Sirico had a nice time of 1:02.77 to win the 400 intermediate hurdles.
In the distance events, freshman Liz Deir and junior Megan Brandeland, each of whom already qualified for NCAA regionals, finished 1-2 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase ahead of a Yale runner.
Senior Leanne Bellar also had a strong day, winning the 400 meters in 56.83 and finishing second in the 200 meters in 25.87. In the high jump, three Princeton athletes cleared the 5' 3" mark to give the Tigers three of the top four in the event.
Princeton hosts the Larry Ellis Invitational next weekend.
