Open Women Fall To Pair Of Ranked Foes, Sweep Novice Races
April 19, 2008 | Women's Rowing - Open
The No. 2 Yale open women took care of business Saturday morning and won the Eisenberg Cup against No. 4 Princeton and No. 12 Tennessee. The Tigers had a mixed day; they fell by .1 of a second to Tennessee in the first varsity race, but they picked up convincing wins over Yale in both novice races.
While Princeton was disappointed to miss out on the Eisenberg Cup, the Orange and Black can build on a strong showing against a pair of potential NCAA Championship competitors. Yale posted a winning time of 6:38.1, but both opponents were within 2.4 seconds of the Bulldogs. Tennessee finished second in 6:40.4, while the Tigers finished third in 6:40.5.
Princeton would also finish third in the second varsity and the varsity fours, but the two novice boats posted strong winning times. The novice eight won in 7:07.4, more than 24 seconds faster than Yale, while the novice four won in 8:28.5.
Princeton will head north to Hanover, N.H., to take on Dartmouth and Penn next weekend.
