Tigers Travel To Penn Relays Beginning Thursday

Princeton will send a host of men's and women's athletes to the annual Penn Relay Carnival beginning Thursday at Franklin Field, including 17 individuals or relay teams that will compete in championship or Olympic Development divisions. In all, 28 female athletes and 19 male athletes will compete at the meet for the Tigers.
Thursday will feature the Tiger women in action for most of the day before three Tiger men's distance standouts?All-America David Nightingale, Ben Sitler and Justin Pines?compete in the Olympic Development 5,000-meter race at 9:50 p.m.
Freshman Isabell von Loga competes in the championship division of the shot put Thursday during the day, as does junior Jess Kloss in the pole vault competition. At night, regional NCAA qualifiers Liz Deir and Megan Brandeland run in the steeplechase championship race, followed by Liz Costello and Reilly Kiernan in the championship 3,000 meters and freshmen Ashley Higginson and Sarah Cummings in the championship 5,000 meters.
Tiger teams will compete in three "Championship of America" events on Friday. At 3 p.m., Princeton has a women's entry in the shuttle hurdles race, while the Tiger men run less than an hour later in the distance medley event. At 6:15, a Tiger foursome will compete in the women's sprint medley Championship of America race.
The Princeton men will also have three entrants in "championship" divisions Friday, beginning with Tom Zozokos in the 400-meter hurdles at 9 a.m. Eric Plummer will take part in the shot put competition starting at 10:30, while freshman George Abyad not only throws the discus but also takes part in the "Eastern" shot put collegiate event Friday.
Princeton will enter two-mile relay team on both the men's and women's sides Saturday in "Championship of America" races. The women's group of Liz Bergold, Karen Aherne, Libby Bliss and Liz Costello runs at 2:45 p.m.; the men's group consisting of Kurt Kuehne, Jordan Hill, Jeff Carbonella and Mike Kowal takes the track at 4:50 p.m.
Several of the Tigers' top field event standouts on the men's side also compete in championship divisions Saturday. Alex Pessala and Craig Pearce throw the hammer in the morning, while Justin Frick in the high jump and Chad Faulkner in the pole vault.
