Plummer, Abyad Lead Tigers At Penn Relays
April 25, 2008 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
Outstanding performances in the field events by Eric Plummer and George Abyad headlined a full day of action for the Princeton men's and women's track & field team at the Penn Relays Friday at Franklin Field.
Plummer competed in the "championship" field of the college men's shot put and had a toss of 57 feet, two inches, good for fourth in the field. Abyad was in the championship discus field and had a throw of more than 51 meters to place fifth; he also competed simultaneously in the "Eastern" group of the shot put, tossing a best of 47 feet, 10 inches.
The Princeton women competed in three unique events on the track Friday. The Tigers were part of a strong field in the shuttle hurdles "Championship of America" race, a race that LSU won in a collegiate record time of 52.77 seconds. Princeton's entry in that race featured four freshmen: Lauren Barber, Bianca Mathabane, K.C. Wade and Katie Sirico.
The Tiger women also ran in the half-mile relay, finishing in 1:42.49, and in the sprint medley "Championship of America" race, finishing 24th in 4:07.81. Junior Agatha Offorjebe was a part of both of those relay teams.
In the day's first track event, Tiger sophomore Tom Zozokos ran a 54.54 in the 400-meter hurdles. Later in the day, the foursome of Ben White, Jordan Sawadogo, Jeff Carbonella and Dennis Walsh ran in the DMR for Princeton; they finished in a time of 10:02.65, 12th of 26 teams in the unseeded section.
In other field events, Johanna Valdez had a best mark of 11.25 meters in the triple jump "Eastern" field to lead three Tigers in that event. On the men's side, two-sport athlete Joel Karacozoff threw the discus in the college men's division with a best mark of 46.73 meters.
