ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan scored two goals late in the third quarter to snap a 3-3 tie and pull ahead a 7-4 win over the Princeton women's water polo team in the Eastern semifinals on Saturday evening at Canham Natatorium. The loss places Princeton in the third-place game tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m.
The teams traded first quarter goals as junior Claire Jacobson got Princeton on the scoreboard early. Michigan scored twice early in the second quarter but a goal from sophomore Phoebe Champion taken from the perimeter during a Michigan ejection brought the Tigers within a goal by the half.
Champion drew Princeton even at 3-3 with 2:54 left in the third quarter, but the 11th-ranked Wolverines quickly responded, scoring twice in the final two minutes of the quarter to lead 5-3. Michigan outscored Princeton 2-1 in the final quarter to seal the 7-4 win. Princeton's final goal came from sophomore Lauren Sabb.
