Princeton Splits Doubleheader at Brown

PROVIDENCE -- The Princeton baseball team split its Ivy League doubleheader at Brown
on Sunday, dropping a pitcher's duel 2-1 in the first game and winning
a 14-11 slugfest in the nightcap. Senior Spencer Lucian drove in four
runs in the two games.
Game 1
Two errors in the field led to a pair of unearned runs as Brown took the opening game 2-1. The game was duel between the two starting pitchers, as Princeton managed three hits and Brown was held to two.
Brown took the lead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs Matt Nuzzo doubled down the right field line and he scored when Conor Reardon reached on an error. Princeton evened the score with a run in the fourth inning. Junior Adrian Turnham drew a one-out walk and went to third on sophomore Jack Murphy's double. An RBI-groundout from senior Spencer Lucian then scored Turnham to even the score at 1-1.
The Bears then scored the game-winning run in the sixth inning when Ryan Murphy reached second on an error. A sac bunt sent him to third and he scored on Reardon's single to left center to give Brown a 2-1 lead.
Princeton managed to put one on in the top of the seventh when Lucian singled with an out, but a game ending double play retired the Tigers and Brown came away with a 2-1 win.
Murphy, junior Dan DeGeorge and Lucian managed hits in the game for Princeton. Sophomore starter David Hale pitched six innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits. He struck out five and fell to 2-2. Anthony Vita allowed a run on three hits in seven innings for the win.
Game 2
Lucian and sophomore Jon Broscious each drove in three runs in the nightcap as Princeton slugged its way to a 14-11 win. Princeton trailed 8-5 after four innings but used a six-run seventh to pull ahead for good in the win. Lucian had three hits and three RBIs for the Tigers while Broscious hit his third homer in two days. Seven of Princeton's nine batters drove in runs in the game as the Tigers hit 14 runs.
Freshman David Palms got the win in relief, pitching the final six innings after relieving senior Steven Miller in the fourth. He is now 2-1 and struck out seven in the win.

Princeton is now 12-14 overall and 4-4 in the Ivy League. Princeton hosts Monmouth Tuesday afternoon in non-league action.
