Open Women Place 12th At 2008 NCAA Championship Regatta
June 01, 2008 | Women's Rowing - Open
The best open rowing teams met in Sacramento, Calif., from May 30-June 1 for the 2008 NCAA Championship regatta, and, as has been the norm every year of the championships, Princeton was part of the mix. Following a tough semifinal round that left the Tigers outside of all three grand finals, Princeton finished 12th at the regatta.
Brown, which Princeton defeated in the season opener at Lake Carnegie, won the national title with 67 team points, while Washington and California finished second and third respectively. Yale place fourth, although the Bulldogs won the prestigious first varsity national title, matching Princeton's championship from the magical 2006 season. Two members of that Tiger boat, stroke Kristin Haraldsottir and coxswain Lizzie Agnew, raced for the final time in Orange and Black at the 2008 NCAAs.
The Princeton first varsity placed sixth in the petite final in a time of 6:45.01, 9.74 seconds behind the winning time posted by Harvard (6:35.30). Yale won the grand final in 6:34.05, 0.90 seconds faster than Stanford.
The Princeton second varsity also placed sixth in its petite final with a time of 7:06.31, which was more than 15 seconds behind the winning time of Wisconsin. The Princeton fours placed fourth in the petite final with a time of 7:45.54, 11.21 seconds behind Ohio State. Brown won the second varsity race, while Washington won the fours.
