June 13, 2008 | Women's Track and Field
Princeton junior Jolee VanLeuven earned All-America honors in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA championships Thursday night in Iowa, completing the 25 laps around the Drake Stadium track in a time of 34:09.51. She was eighth among American-born finishers in the race.
27 runners started the race; VanLeuven's ninth-place time was just 25 seconds behind second-place finisher Danette Doetzel of Providence.
The time of 34:09.51 was six seconds better than VanLeuven's previous best time this spring, a 34:15.61 at the Mt. SAC Relays in California in April. The Portland, Ore., native also won the 10,000 meters at Ivy League Heptagonals for the second straight year in May.
The Tigers will conclude action at the NCAA championship meet on Friday night, when sophomore high jumper Justin Frick competes in the finals of that event beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
