Ivy Champ Volleyball Welcomes Three Members Of Class Of 2012
June 25, 2008 | Women's Volleyball
Fresh off a record-setting Ivy League championship season, the Princeton women's volleyball will welcome three members of the Class of 2012 when it opens defense of its 14th Ivy League championship next September.
Hillary Ford (Palo Alto, Calif/Palo Alto) has been a defensive specialist and outside hitter during an impressive volleyball career, and she will enter Princeton as a libero next season. Ford played outside hitter in high school and led Palo Alto to three league titles, the first three in her school's history. A four-year starter, she earned three all-league honors and, as a senior, earned league MVP honors and second-team honors from the San Jose Mercury News. She was a defensive specialist for one of the most competitive club programs in the nation and could make an immediate impact following the graduation of four-time All-Ivy recipient and former CVU.com National Libero of the Year Jenny McReynolds.
Cathryn Quinn (North Hollywood, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) is a 6-2 middle blocker who brings first-team All-CIF and Los Angeles Daily News all-area honors to Princeton. She started all four years at Harvard-Westlake and competed at the highest levels in club volleyball, which afforded her the opportunity to play against top competition both nationally and internationally. Her club finished sixth at the Reno Festival, one of the most competitive national tournaments in the country. An accomplished athlete, Quinn also reached a CIF final in swimming. She will look to earn time this season but will be a critical piece for the future, as starting middles Lindsey Ensign and Jessica Hoffmann both graduate after next season.
Michaela Venuti (Palo Alto, Calif./Henry M Gunn) was a two-time first-team all-league setter and a Central Coast Section second-team honoree. Nearly six feet tall, she has played on a variety of club programs, including one of the top squads in Northern California this year. Not only is she a strong passer, but she brings the type of blocking and defensive skills that make her a terrific all-around player. Venuti will likely have a year to learn the system while rising senior Bailey Robinson, a 2007 first-team All-Ivy selection, leads Princeton during her final year.
Overall, Princeton returns six starters and several key reserves from the first Ivy League volleyball program to go 14-0 in the Ivy League season. The upperclassmen have guided Princeton to a 42-7 record over the last two seasons and a berth in the 2007 NCAA Championships.
