Young to Attend Hockey Canada?s Under-22 Team Selection Camp
July 17, 2008 | Women's Ice Hockey
Rising senior goaltender Kristen Young is one the 40 players invited to participate in Hockey Canada's National Women's Under-22 Team selection camp, August 10-17 at York University in Toronto.
The players were selected to be part of the selection camp based on evaluations done by Hockey Canada regional scouts during the 2007-08 season. These evaluations included performances with their club teams, along with the National Women's Under-22 Team strength and conditioning/skating camp in May in Calgary, among other criteria.
The players attending camp are eligible to represent Canada at the 2009 MLP Cup (formerly the Air Canada Cup) in Ravensburg, Germany in early January. Canada has won the tournament six years in a row, losing just one game. Hockey Canada will also use the camp to select 22 players for a three-game series against the USA's Women's Under-22 Select Team in Pierrefonds, QC in late August. Young's Princeton teammate Sasha Sherry has already been selected to the U.S. team for that series.
Young played every minute for the Tigers last season in goal, compiling a 14-12-6 record with a 2.04 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. She tied a program record with seven shutouts including a shutout streak of 238:42 that spanned through five games during the middle of the season.
