Women's Hockey Releases 2008-09 Schedule
July 03, 2008 | Women's Ice Hockey
The 2008-09 Princeton women's hockey schedule was recently announced by Princeton head coach Jeff Kampersal. The schedule features 22 ECAC Hockey games and seven non-conference games against teams from Hockey East and the WCHA.
After an exhibition game against the Bluewater Hawks and two scrimmages against Yale and Brown, the Tigers open the regular season on their home ice with a two-game series against Connecticut on Oct. 24 and 25. Those games start a stretch in which Princeton will play 11 of its first 14 games of the season on its home ice.
The Tigers get league play started one weekend later at home when Dartmouth and defending ECAC Hockey champion Harvard visit Baker Rink.
Harvard and Dartmouth represent two of the four NCAA tournament participants on the Princeton schedule this season. Other tournament teams on the docket include ECAC foe St. Lawrence and Minnesota-Duluth, the reigning National Champion.
The Tigers make their first road trip the weekend of Nov. 7 and 8 when they head to Cornell and Colgate, a trip that breaks up a pair of four-game homestands. Upon returning to Princeton, the Tigers host a non-league weekend with games against Boston University and Vermont, followed by a league weekend as St. Lawrence and Clarkson visit Baker Rink.
Princeton visits Boston College for a single game the day after Thanksgiving at noon, and then comes home to host travel-partner Quinnipiac on Tuesday, Dec. 2. Princeton hosts league games against Union and Rensselaer the following weekend and closes out the first part of the season a weekend later at Minnesota-Duluth. It will be the Tigers' first games against the Bulldogs since a series at Baker Rink in December of 2000, in which Princeton was 0-1-1. Princeton last traveled to the state of Minnesota in 2006 for an NCAA tournament contest against Minnesota.
Following the holiday break, Princeton plays four games away from home before exams. It starts with a weekend at Harvard and Dartmouth and finishes with games at Rensselaer and Union. The team then has 17 days off for finals before returning to action with a Tuesday night game at Quinnipiac.
Princeton then plays four league weekends to wrap up the regular season, the first two coming at home and the last two on the road. The home stretch starts with Yale and Brown, followed by Colgate and Cornell. Then it's on the road at Clarkson and St. Lawrence and the regular season concludes at Brown and Yale.
The top eight finishers in the ECAC Hockey standings will then advance on to the best-of-three quarterfinals the following weekend hosted by the top seed. The semifinals and championship game will take place a week later at the site of the highest remaining seed.
The 2007-08 Tigers finished the season with a 16-14-3 record and finished fifth in the ECAC Hockey standings.
