Field Hockey Hosts Dartmouth Saturday in Ivy Opener

The 15th-ranked Princeton field hockey team opens its home schedule on Saturday when Dartmouth visits Class of '52 Stadium on the first day of Ivy League games this season. The Tigers are the three-time defending Ivy League champion and have dropped just one league game over the past three seasons.
Princeton started the season 3-0 before a 3-2 double overtime loss at Connecticut in its last outing. The Tigers led the game 1-0 and 2-1 but were unable to hold on as UConn came from behind for the win despite being outshot and outcornered by Princeton. Junior Christina Bortz and freshman Katie Reinprecht scored in the game for Princeton, while junior goalkeeper Cynthia Wray made six saves.
The loss, coupled with an 11-1 midweek win at Lehigh helped Princeton jump two spots to No. 15 in the STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll. The Tigers were ranked 16th in the preseason poll, then dropped two spots to No. 17, despite winning both of its games, in the second poll. Connecticut, now ranked fourth but then ranked fifth, is the only ranked team Princeton has met so far this season. The Tigers have four additional ranked teams on their schedule. The most recent one is No. 12 Penn State, which Princeton visits next Wednesday.
Senior Holly McGarvie continues to lead the Tigers in scoring with nine points on four goals and an assist despite being held off the scoreboard against UConn for the first time this season. Four Tigers?seniors Candice Arner, Bortz, Katie Reinprecht and freshman Kathleen Sharkey?are tied for second on the team with seven points each from three goals and one assist. In total, eight players have scored goals this season and 13 have recorded assists. Senior Sarah Reinprecht, with two, is the only player with more than one assist.
Junior Cynthia Wray made her first start of the season in goal at UConn and made six saves. Sophomore Jennifer King started the previous three games and has allowed just one goal in 175 minutes.

The Tigers opened league season against Cornell from 1990-1999 and have opened the league season against either Columbia or Yale every year since.
