Pessala Sets Meet Record at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (1/24/09) ? Princeton senior Alex Pessala set a Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse record in the 35-lb. weight throw on Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational hosted by the Naval Academy. Pessala threw 19.51 meters, just over 64 feet.
The Tigers would medal in all of the field events, earning at least second place in each event. Princeton earned two first-place finishes in the track events, and medaled in all but two races.
Sophomore Craig Pearce finished second to Pessala with a throw of 18.78 meters, and junior Joel Karacozoff recorded a toss of 16.34 meters for eighth place.
Junior Eric Plummer took second place in the shot put with a throw of 17.54 meters. Freshman Patrick Park and senior Tim Lanni finished in fourth and fifth place, with Park throwing a personal best 16.16 meters and Lanni posting 14.63.
Junior Chad Faulkner had his best outing of the season in the pole vault, launching to 4.65 meters to capture second place.
Sophomore Dion Lehman churned out a season best and second-place performance in the long jump, going 7.08 meters, and junior Scott Henkelman took sixth place with a jump of 6.65 meters. In the triple jump, freshman Isaac Serwanga placed second with a leap of 13.72 meters and sophomore Garner McCloud finished immediately behind with 13.70 meters.
In the high jump, junior Justin Frick took second with a height of 2.09 meters. Classmate Ian Fox and Serwanga also competed, and reached 2.04 and 1.84 meters, respectively.
Junior Ted Price won the 5000 meter run with a winning time of 14:35.39. Sophomore Rob Speare was right on his heels posting a time of 14:35.43 for second place. Junior Tim Branigan also competed and took fourth, crossing the line at 14:53.36.
Freshman Austin Hollimon won his event, the 400 meter dash with a victory sprint of 48.17. Sophomore Mike Eddy and freshman Ricky Kearney ran in at 49.20 and 49.94, respectively.
In the 60 meter hurdles, senior Chris Vasich advanced to the finals and finished in 8.36 seconds for fourth place. In the 60 meter dash it was freshman Ivan Charbonneau advancing past the preliminaries and recorded a time of 7.05 for third place. Charbonneau also competed in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 22.80, while sophomore Meko McCray followed at 23.41.
Ben White earned a second-place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:54.59. Jordan Hill competed in the event for the first time this season and came in at 1:58.38.
Rounding out the medal winners was freshman Brian Leung in the 3000 meter run. Leung took third place, crossing the tape at 8:18.57. Fellow classmates Max Kaulbach and Donn Cabral clocked in at 8:29.96 and 8:30.35, respectively.
Freshman Trevor Van Ackeren was the first Tiger across the line in the mile at 4:16.44 for 8th place. Freshman Joe Stilin came in at 4:16.79 and sophomore Kyle Soloff at 4:17.89.
Princeton's distance medley relay team competed for the second time this and clocked in at 10:06.33, good for second place. The 4x400 relay earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:20.37.
Princeton will take part in the Penn State National Open on Jan. 30 and 31.
