Volleyball Uses Effective Hitting To Claim 3-1 Win At Dartmouth
October 17, 2009 | Women's Volleyball
The Princeton volleyball team didn't let Friday's heartbreaking loss at Harvard affect its entire weekend, and the end result was both another sign of maturity and a second Ivy League win. Effective hitting throughout the lineup led the Tigers to a 3-1 win at Dartmouth.
After being one point away from a five-set thriller over Harvard, Princeton came into Saturday afternoon's match against the Big Green with focused offensive energy. Four players had at least 10 kills in a 25-18, 24-26, 25-13, 25-13 victory over Dartmouth. Sophomore Cathryn Quinn led the way with 16 kills, while freshman Lydia Rudnick recorded 15 kills with only one error for a .412 attack percentage.
Senior co-captains Sheena Donohue and Taylor Carroll both finished off strong weekends Saturday; Donohue recorded 12 kills and 22 digs, while Carroll recorded 10 kills and hit .333 for the match. Sophomore setter Michaela Venuti, playing her second Ivy League match of the season, recorded 39 assists during the win, while classmate Hillary Ford led Princeton with 19 digs.
As a team, Princeton hit .273 for the match and limited Dartmouth to a .096 hitting percentage.
Princeton will host Cornell and Columbia next weekend at Dillon Gym. It will also be the DIG PINK weekend at Dillon Gym, as Princeton will raise money to fight breast cancer; more information on DIG PINK weekend can be found here.
