October 08, 2009 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis
PRINCETON -- Both Princeton tennis teams will head to New York City this weekend, though to separate boroughs for separate events.
The men's team will compete in the Columbia Invitational in Manhattan Friday through Sunday while the women will go to Queens a day later for the USTA Invitational Saturday through Monday.
Draws have not yet been released for the USTA event, but the women's team will be sending seven of its nine players to compete in singles and doubles play. Taylor Marable and Hilary Bartlett, who are competing this week in the ITA All-America tournament in Los Angeles, will rest the weekend.
On the men's side, three Tigers will compete in the Columbia event, with rookies Matija Pecotic and Matt Siow participating in singles as well as Pecotic teaming with senior Ilya Trubov for doubles.
There are two singles brackets, A and B, and one doubles bracket, the A draw. Doubles play will begin at 9 a.m. Friday with singles following at 10 a.m. Joining the Tiger players will be competitors from Columbia, Fairleigh Dickinson, St. John's and Penn.
Pecotic will start his weekend competing against Martin Kosut of St. John's in the A singles bracket, a four-round event in which Pecotic is the No. 1 seed. Siow will also be a No. 1 seed, competing in the B bracket and getting a first-round bye into Saturday.
In doubles play, the Pecotic/Trubov duo will start Friday in the four-round draw against the Columbia duo of Ekin Sezgen and Kevin Kung.
