Top Female Athletes Of The Decade: No. 6 Lauren Simmons ?02
December 21, 2009 | Women's Track and Field
Lauren Simmons was a six-time Heptagonal champion, twice
each in the 800 meters indoors and outdoors, once outdoors in the 1,500 and
once in a relay. She is still the Princeton record holder in the 500, 800 and 1,000
meters indoors and the 800 meters outdoors, and she won the 2002 outdoor ECAC
800 championship.
She was named the coaches' association regional athlete of the year her senior year.
Simmons saved her best for last, however, as she finished second in the 800 meters at the NCAA outdoor championships to earn All-America honors. Her runner-up time was .35 seconds away from the winner, and it made her the highest finisher of any Princeton woman in an NCAA indoor or outdoor track event.
