PRINCETON (12/30/09) - The Princeton women's hockey team opens up a home-and-home series with travel-partner Quinnipiac on Thursday afternoon on the road. The teams conclude the series two days later at Baker Rink on Saturday afternoon.
Princeton enters the games looking to rebound from its recent five-game losing skid going into the Holiday break that saw Princeton fall to Boston University, drop both ends of a league weekend at Clarkson and St. Lawrence and then two get swept at Syracuse.
During the Syracuse weekend, Princeton fell 4-3 to the Orange in the first game after Syracuse rallied from a 3-1 deficit with three straight goals. Julie Flynn, Heather Landry and Kelly Cooke scored in the loss for the Tigers. Princeton rebounded with a stronger game the following day, but could not crack the Orange defense in a 1-0 overtime defeat.
These games mark a return to league play for the Tigers. Princeton currently sits fifth in the ECAC standings, one point behind a third-place tie between Harvard and Quinnipiac. Clarkson and Cornell top the standings with 16 points apiece, four better than both Harvard and Quinnipiac. Rensselaer, St. Lawrence and Dartmouth complete the top eight positions.
Quinnipiac is 7-6-5 overall and 4-2-4 in the ECAC. The Bobcats are 1-2-3 in their last six entering the weekend and haven't played since a loss and tie at Clarkson and St. Lawrence on Dec. 4 and 5. Princeton is 8-0-1 all-time against Quinnipiac and swept the Bobcats last season with wins of 4-2 and 2-1.
