No. 17 Men's Swimming/Diving Completes Perfect Season With Win At Columbia

The 17th-ranked Princeton men's swimming and diving team, which jumped into the national Top 20 for the first time this season following its win over Navy, completed a perfect regular season Friday afternoon with a 178-119 victory over Columbia. Princeton ends its regular season 8-0, 7-0 in the Ivy League.
Princeton opened the meet by winning the three-meter diving competition. Senior Yarden Fraiman, in the middle of his best season, won the event with 301.95, while junior Dan Dickerson took second with 289.73 points. Rounding out the top three was freshman Tom Wells, who scored 252.00 points.
The Tigers placed second and third in the 200 medley relay. The team of Robert Coe, George Rae-Grant, Dan Eckel and Christopher Quemana took second in 1:35.70, while the foursome of Danny O'Connor, John LaMonaca, Brett Lullo and Matt LaMonaca took third in 1:36.68.
Princeton swept the top three spots in the 1000, led by a victory for sophomore Patrick Biggs in 9:32.32. Sophomore Colin Hanna placed second in 9:36.69, while senior tri-captain Robert Griest placed third in 9:36.98. Junior Jonathan Hartmann followed with a win in the 200 free (1:40.17), while freshman Travis McNamara took second in 1:42.31.
Colin Cordes won the 100 back in 52.02, followed by Coe (52.69) and O'Connor (53.43), while Easton Chen picked up a third-place finish in the 100 breast (59.04). The Tigers got back on the winning track when Eckel and senior tri-captain Doug Lennox finished 1-2 in the 200 fly; Eckel finished in 1:48.94, while Lennox finished in 1:49.24.
Geoff Faux (21.10) and Michael Carter (21.57), went 2-3 in the 50 free, while Hartmann took second in 46.36, just .01 of a second behind Columbia's Adam Powell. Dickerson followed his second-place finish on the 3-meter board with a win on the 1-meter (307.65), while Fraiman claimed third with 264.08 points.
Cordes (1:52.84), Coe (1:55.29) and Hanna (1:56.13) guided Princeton to a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 back, while Quemana won the 200 breast in 2:07.07. Eckel picked up a second individual victory by taking the 500 in 4:40.97, while freshman Miki Monovoukas and senior tri-captain Will Schaffer went 2-3 in the 100 fly. Monovoukas finished in 51.44, while Schaffer finished in 51.60.
The final individual event of the evening was the 200 IM, which Lennox won in 1:53.31. The foursome of Matt LaMonaca, Monovoukas, Faux and Quemana finished the 200 free relay second in 1:24.28, although it didn't count towards the team final score because Princeton had already clinched the meet.
Princeton can now turn its full attention on the 2009 Ivy League championships, which will be held the first weekend in March at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool. A full preview of the meet will be available on GoPrincetonTigers.com the week of the event.
