Women's Water Polo Splits League Games on Sunday

The Princeton women's water polo team opened the league portion of its schedule on Sunday by splitting a pair of road contests. Princeton started the day with a 12-4 win at George Washington, but dropped the day's second game 11-9 at Maryland.
In the day's first game, Princeton raced out to an early lead in the win and pulled away by blanking the Colonials in the second and third quarters. Princeton led by as many as nine in the fourth quarter before the team's traded two goals apiece in the final period.
Juniors Phoebe Champion and Helen Meigs, and sophomores Tanya Wilcox and Lauren Brunner all scored two goals apiece. Four others added single goals in the win. Freshman Kristen Ward made 10 saves in goal for the win.

The Tigers fell 11-9 in the day's second game at Maryland. The game was close throughout with the Tigers evening things up late in the third quarter at 7-7 before a Maryland spurt to end the third period and start the fourth swung the game in the Terps' favor.
Brunner and Champion led the way with three goals apiece and three others added goals. Ward and sophomore Christina Michel split the game in goal with each making four saves.

Princeton is now 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the CWPA. The Tigers host the Princeton Invitational next weekend with games on Saturday and Sunday.
