Women's Water Polo Comes Tops Marist and Harvard

PRINCETON -- The Princeton women's water polo team swept its two games on the opening day of the Princeton Invitational at DeNunzio Pool. Princeton overcame a 7-3 first half deficit to come from behind and defeat Marist 10-9 in the day's first game and the Tigers held off Harvard 10-8 in the nightcap.
Princeton fell behind early in the first game, as Marist was able to convert on four goals in the first quarter and three more in the second. At one point, Marist led 7-3 midway through the second quarter before Princeton trimmed the lead by a goal at the half.
The Tigers then put the clamps on Marist in the second half, holding the Red Foxes to just two more goals over the final 16 minutes of play. Princeton scored six goals in the final two quarters to come from behind for the win.
Meigs led the way with four goals, one of which came on a five-meter shot. Sophomores Lauren Brunner and Tanya Wilcox also scored two goals in the win. Both of Brunner's goal came on five-meter shots. Freshman Kristen Ward made 10 saves in the win.

The Tigers made it two wins for the day with a 10-8 win over the Crimson. Princeton broke open a one-goal game with five goals in the third period to jump ahead 8-4 with eight minutes left and led 10-5 in the fourth quarter before the Crimson closed the final gap to three.
Brunner's three goals led all scorers in the game, with Meigs adding two to total six for the day. Five other Tigers added single goals in the win, and sophomore Christina Michel made 12 saves in the cage.
