Young Named ECAC Goaltender of the Week
February 16, 2009 | Women's Ice Hockey
Princeton senior goaltender Kristen Young was named the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week on Monday after she backstopped the Tigers to a road sweep at Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Young allowed just two goals on 49 shots as Princeton gained ground in the race for home ice in the ECAC playoffs.
Young and the Tigers were excellent defensively all weekend, limiting their opponents to just two goals. It started on Friday when she made 26 saves in a 2-1 win at Clarkson as the Tigers avenged a loss to the Golden Knights earlier this season. Princeton then followed it up with a 2-1 win the following afternoon at sixth-ranked St. Lawrence. Young made 21 saves in the win as the Tigers swept the season series from the league's first-place team.
Princeton enters the final weekend of the regular season needing two points this weekend to clinch home ice for the ECAC quarterfinals. The Tigers can finish anywhere from second to sixth depending on this weekend's scores around the ECAC. The eight playoff teams are set and an explanation on the possible finishes and playoff seeds is provided below.
