Track & Field Hosts Invitational on Sunday

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/19/09) ? Princeton track and field will host the Princeton Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 22 at Jadwin Gym. The invitational will feature Columbia, Lincoln (Pa.), Franklin & Marshall, City College of New York and Virginia Wesleyan along with the Tigers.
The meet will begin at 11 a.m., with the throwing events, followed by the jumping events at 11:30 a.m., and the track events at 1 p.m.
At last year's invitational, the men's team earned eight first-place finishes. Jeff Carbonella and Rob Grote won the 800 and 1,000 with times of 1:54.98 and 2:27.07. Chris Vasich finished the 55-meter hurdles in 7.64 and Justin Frick reached 2.09 meters in the high jump. Will Byrd was the top pole vaulter of the day clearing 4.90 meters, while Garner McCloud won the triple jump with a length of 14.40 meters. Eric Plummer and Alex Pessala won the shot put and weight throw, with throws of 16.92 and 19.21, respectively.
The women's team captured five first-place honors. Karen Aherne finished the 800 meters in 2:14.62, and Bianca Mathabane crossed the finish line of the 55-meter hurdles in 8.31. Jessica Kloss vaulted to 3.81 meters and Liz Stevens reached 5.58 meters in the long jump. Isabell von Loga was the top thrower in the shot put with a throw of 15.60 meters.
