Ivy Titles on the Line This Weekend at Indoor Heptagonal

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/26/09) ? The Princeton men and women's indoor track and field teams will be competing for the Ivy League championship in Cambridge, Mass., this Saturday, Feb. 28 through Sunday, March 1.
The men will be looking for its 13th Heptagonal title, while the women will be seeking its second straight and eighth overall.

Freshman Kashif Smith has the third best time in the league in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.88 which he turned in at the season opening New Year Invitational in December. Sophomore Meko McCray also has a top-10 time at 6.98.
In the 400, Freshman Austin Hollimon has the best time in the league as he raced out to a 48.17 time that Navy Invitational in January. Sophmore Mike Eddy and senior Ian Thomson also have top-10 times, all under 49.50.
Eddy sports the second-best time in the league in the 500 meters, at 1:03.58 and freshman Ricky Kearney boasts a 1:05.06.
Sophomore Kyle Soloff has been impressive in the 1,000-meter run this season and has the sixth best time in the league at 2:27.23. Freshman Trevor Van Ackeren is about a minute off at 2:28.73, 10th in the league.
Senior Michael Maag's time of 4:05.82 in the mile at the H-Y-P event is third best in the league and Soloff has a time of 4:10.82, 8th in the league.
Freshman Brian Leung is Princeton's top 3,000-meter runner. Leung turned in a time of 8:16.20 at the H-Y-P meet last weekend, the eighth-best time in the league this season.
The Tigers have four of the top-10 runners in the 5,000-meter event. Junior Ted Price and sophomore Rob Speare are both under 14:36, and senior Cameron Marantz and junior Tim Branigan both under 14:54.
Senior Chris Vasich and sophomore Adam Thayer are Princeton's top two hurdlers. Vasich ran 8.25 at the H-Y-P and Thayer clocked in at 8.41 at the Penn State Open in January.
Princeton has a strong chance of winning both the 4x400 and the distance medley relays. The Tigers currently have the second-best times in both at 3:16.23 and 10:06.33. Princeton's 4x800 relay team posted a season-best time of 7:48.77.
Junior Justin Frick has the best high jump on record this season in the league as he reached 7' 0.5” at the New Year Invitational. Junior Ian Fox, senior Duane Hynes and freshman Isaac Serwanga also have places in the top 10. Serwanga is the lone Tiger in the triple jump top-10 list, reaching 47' 2.5” at the Navy Quad.
Freshman David Slovenski has the second-best pole vault in the league, reaching 16' 10.75” at the Princeton Invite this past weekend. Junior Chad Faulkner and freshman Derek Hynes have also both reached 15' 9” or better.
In the long jump Duane Hynes posted a length of 23' 5.55” at the Princeton Relays in January, the second-best length in the league. Sophomore Dion Lehman and junior
Scott Henkelman also find themselves in the top 10.
Princeton has the top two throwers in the league in Eric Plummer and Alex Pessala. Plummer posted a length of 58' 3.75” in the shot put at the Navy Quad, while Pessala reached 68' 10.5” in the shot put at the Princeton Invite last weekend. Sophomores George Abyad and Craig Pearce, junior Joel Karacozoff, freshman Patrick Park and senior Tim Lanni also have had throws in the top 10 in the league.
Duane Hynes is on par to win the heptathlon after provisionally qualifying for the event in January after collected 5,639 points.

Freshman Eileen Moran posted the best time in the league in the 60-meter dash this season, clocking in at 7.44 at the Princeton Open. Senior Agatha Offorjebe's season-best was 7.74 at the same meet, eighth in the league. Offorjebe also has the 10th best time in the 200-meter at 25.28.
Freshman Danielle Glaeser and sophomore Lauren Barber are both in the top 10 in their respective events, the 400-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles. Barber is also in the top 10 in the triple jump, while junior Aundeah Kearney is in the long jump.
Junior Liz Costello is the best one miler in the league, turning in a 4:48.22 mile at Penn State in January. Sophomore Ashley Higginson, senior Megan Brandeland and freshman Alex Banfich are three other Tigers that have finished the event in under 4:57.
The women's distance runners also have a strong chance of winning the 3,000-meter run. Junior Reilly Kiernan and sophomore Sarah Cummings have both provisionally qualified with matching times of 9:31.20. Senior Jolee VanLeuven, sophomore Ashley Higginson and freshman Alex Banfich own three of the other seven places in the top 10. VanLeuven has the best time in the 5,000 in the league at 16:37.79, which has qualified her provisionally for the NCAAs. Banfich and Cummings rank in the top five in the league in the event.
Princeton's three pole vaulters all find themselves in the top 10, led by senior Jessica Kloss. Kloss vaulted to 12' 4” at the Penn State Open, the third best vault in the league. Freshman Lydia Arias follows with 11' 11.75”, and classmate Bianca Reo is two inches behind.
Sophomore Thanithia Billings will be Princeton's best chance at winning the shot put, after throwing 47' 5” at H-Y-P last weekend. She also has one of the best throws in the league in the weight throw. Classmate Emma Ruggiero however has her beat by two inches at 51' 11.25”, while freshman Alyssa Pehmoeller hopes to make an impact in her first Heps.
Princeton's lone athlete in the pentathlon, sophomore KC Wade earned 3,244 points in January to rank fourth in the league.
