Long Beach State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in an 11-4 win over the Princeton women's water polo team on Wednesday at the LBSU Campus Pool. Junior Helen Meigs scored twice for the Tigers.
The 49ers got out to a quick start against the Tigers, outscoring Princeton 5-0 in the opening period. Long Beach State scored on their first possession, and then got two straight goals from Keala O'Sullivan to take a 3-0 lead.
The teams stayed even through the second period, but Long Beach State continued to extend their lead in the second half behind scores from seven 49ers. In addition to Meigs' two goals, sophomore Tanya Wilcox and senior Liz Dilday each scored once. Freshman Kristen Ward made seven saves.
The Tigers are now 10-7 overall and complete their Spring Break schedule with games Thursday at Whittier and Chapman.
