Women's Track Medals in Three Events After Day One of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA (4/23/09) ? Junior Liz Costello and senior Emma Ruggiero along with freshman Alex Banfich all medaled after the first day of the Penn Relays on Thursday, April 23 at Franklin Field.
Ruggiero took second in the college hammer with a throw of 51.76 meters.
Costello turned in a time of 9:36.16 in the championship 3000 to finish third. Banfich also finished third in the championship 5000 with a time of 16:23.24. Junior Reilly Kiernan was seventh at 16:31.54, and sophomore Ashley Higginson came in 14th at 16:41.05.
Freshman Lydia Arias and senior Jessica Kloss both finished eighth in their respective pole vault events. Arias reached 3.50 in the college event, while Kloss cleared 3.85 in the championship event.
Also finishing in the top 10 was sophomore Thanithia Billings in the Eastern shot put, recording a throw of 13.38.
The 4x400 team was fifth in the Heptagonal, posting a time of 3:52.77. Cornell won the event at 3:46.88.
Tomorrow's event will start at 11 a.m., for the Tigers with the Eastern triple jump.
