PRINCETON -- The Princeton women's water polo team fell to Maryland 11-9 in overtime on Sunday morning at DeNunzio Pool. Princeton came back to force overtime in the loss.
The game was close throughout but Maryland held one-goal edges at halftime and at the end of the third quarter. Princeton forced overtime, but Maryland tallied a goal in each of the extra sessions to earn the 11-9 win.
Junior Phoebe Champion led the Tiger offense with three goals while junior Carolina Ardila and freshman Audrey Zak each scored twice. Junior Helen Meigs assisted on seven of Princeton's nine goals and in doing so tied Ardila's school record for assists in a game.
Princeton fell to 13-11 overall this season and 2-4 in the CWPA. The Tigers have now completed the regular season and return to action in two weekends at the Southern Championships at Maryland. Princeton will be the tournament's third seed and will meet Bucknell in the semifinals
