Higginson Qualifies for NCAA Regional at Sam Howell Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/5/09) ? Sophomore Ashley Higginson qualified for the NCAA Regional in the 5,000-meter run at the Sam Howell Invitational at Weaver Stadium on April 3-4. Higginson covered the 5,000-meter course in 16:42.09 which was good enough for second place.
Freshman Alex Banfich won the 1500-meter run, covering the course in 4:33.45. Teammate Libby Bliss followed up with a third-place finish of 4:35.19. Senior Alexe Smith also finished among the top-10 runners.
Freshman Eileen Moran posted a time of 12.37 in the 100-meter dash to finish in fifth place. Senior Agatha Offorjebe also placed among the top 10 with a time of 12.48 for eighth place.
Offorjebe was just nudged out of first place in the 200-meter dash by St. John's Venisa Clark-Lee. Clarke-Lee won the event with a sprint of 24.55, with Offorjbe just .07 seconds behind at 24.62. Moran and classmate Sarah Houtmann also finished in the top 10 with time of 25.34 and 25.52, respectively.
Freshman Danielle Glaeser was fifth in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 58.02. She went on to set a personal best time in the 200-meter dash at 25.99, shaving 0.21 seconds off her previous time.
In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Katherine Sircio finished in seventh place with a time of 1:06.02.
Rounding out the track events, the Tigers took second-place honors in the 4x100 medley relay with a time of 48.54.
In the hammer throw, freshman Alyssa Pehmoeller took third with a throw of 43.56 meters. Senior Emma Giunipero was fifth in the discus with a throw of 40.93 meters.
Junior Liz Stevens was fifth in the high jump, clearing 1.58 meters. Sophomore KC Wade reached 1.55 meters for eighth place.
Sophomore Bianca Williams reached 11.36 meters to place second in the triple jump. Classmate Lauren Barber found 10.91 meters to finish in fifth place.
Freshman Lydia Arias and senior Jessica Kloss took second and third in the pole vault, both clearing 3.65 meters.
The Tigers will compete in the Princeton-Yale-Penn meet in New Haven, Conn., next Saturday, April 11.
