Women's Volleyball Announces 2009 Schedule
May 20, 2009 | Women's Volleyball
While it may not have a head coach yet, the 2009 Princeton women's volleyball team does have its schedule set. A trio of challenging early-season tournaments will test a mostly inexperienced starting lineup that will set its sights on a 15th Ivy League title this fall.
Princeton will open the 2009 season at the Delaware Invitational, where it will take on the Blue Hens on Sept. 4 in the season opener. Princeton and Delaware last met in the first round of the 2007 NCAA tournament, where the Blue Hens advanced with a 3-1 victory. Princeton will also take on Army and Rutgers that weekend.
Following the Sept. 9 home opener against Seton Hall, Princeton will head to the Villanova Classic to take on Villanova, George Washington and UMBC. During Princeton's Ivy League championship season of 2007, a 3-2 comeback win over Villanova helped ignite a 20-match win streak, which included the only 14-0 run through league play in Ivy history.
Princeton will play its final tournament at the West Virginia Classic from Sept. 19-20; the Tigers will take on George Mason, West Virginia and Duquesne that weekend. That will lead Princeton into Ivy League play, which begins at Dillon Gym the night of Sept. 26 against Penn. Princeton will take on reigning Ivy League champion Yale Oct. 9 in New Haven (7 p.m.) and Oct. 31 at Princeton (4 p.m.); for the complete Princeton schedule, click here.
