Women's Track Takes On Heps This Weekend

PRINCETON, N.J. (5/6/09) ? The Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championship will be held on May 9-10 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. The Princeton women's track team will be looking for its eighth title and first since 1998.

In looking ahead to the championship, the Ivy League has ranked the top-10 performances of the season across its eight member schools.
Junior Liz Costello has the best time in the 1500-meter run, clocking in at 4:23.75. Teammates Ashley Higginson, Sarah Cummings and Alex Banfich occupy three of the remaining nine slots.
The middle distance core dominates the slots in the 3000, 5000 and 10000 as well. Jolee VanLeuven, Reilly Kiernan, Cummings and Higginson are in the top-10 in all three events. Higginson won the 5000 last year with a time of 16:39.35 while Van Leuven took first in the 10000 cruising in at 35:21.91. Banfich has a top-10 time in the 3000 and 5000, while Alexa Glencer is in the 10000. Higginson and Kiernan also have the second- and third-best times in the steeplechase.
Freshman Eileen Moran is in the top 10 in both the 100 and 200 with times of 12.22 and 24.88, respectively. Senior Agatha Offorjebe has the second best time in the 200 at 24.39 behind Columbia's Sharay Hale. Offorjebe finds herself third in the 400, with a time of 55.22, with last year's winner Nicole Burns of Brown ahead of her at 54.88. Hale also holds the top spot in the 400 with a time of 5.54.
Senior Jessica Kloss has the second best performance in the pole vault, clearing 12-11.50. She won the event last year reaching 12-7.50. Freshmen Lydia Arias and Bianca Reo also have high marks.
Sophomore Thanithia Billings ranks fourth in the shot put, throwing to 47-05.00, and is also in the top-10 in the hammer throw. Sophomore Emma Ruggiero is third in the hammer reaching 179-03 and is also in the top-10 in the discus, along with senior Emma Giunipero. Freshman Alyssa Pehmoeller sits between Ruggiero and Billings in the hammer throw with a throw of 153-07.
Also in the top 10 are sophomores Libby Bliss in the 800, Lauren Barber in the 100-meter hurdles, Katherine Sirico in the 400-meter hurdles, KC Wade in the high jump and Bianca Williams in the triple jump.
