Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Places Three on Academic All-District Teams

PRINCETON, N.J. (6/4/09) ? Four members of the Princeton women's cross country and track and field teams have been honored as CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selections.
Senior Megan Brandeland earned first-team honors, while seniors Jolee VanLeuven, Jessica Kloss and junior Reilly Kiernan captured second-team honors.
As a member of the first team, Brandeland will move on to the national ballot.
Brandeland recently earned a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Princeton's 2009 Commencement, while competing in both cross country and track and field during her career. She was captain of the 2008 cross country team that finished fifth at the NCAAs, the best finish in program history and was the second Princeton scorer at the meet. She has won five Ivy League championships and has been a three-time first-team All-Ivy selection. Brandeland is a two-time NCAA regional qualifier and NCAA participant. She has earned Academic All-Ivy honors and has been named all-district by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) twice. Brandeland leaves Princeton with the second-best steeplechase time in program history.
VanLeuven earned a degree in history last week. She was captain of both the cross country and track and field teams, while earning All-America honors. She has participated in five NCAA Championships and helped her team to four Ivy League titles during her career. Van Leuven is a four-time All-Ivy selection and has been named Academic All-Ivy on three occasions. At this year's NCAA XC Championship she ran 20:58, her best time of the season. VanLeuven holds the third-best time in the 10,000 and the fifth-best time in the 5,000.
Kloss earned a degree in Astrophysical Sciences at Commencement and has been Princeton's top pole vaulter for the past four years. She is a three-time Ivy League champion in the event and is a five-time NCAA Regional qualifier in the event. She won the pole vault at Penn Relays, earned four All-Ivy honors and was named Academic All-Ivy in 2008. Kloss has helped Princeton to two Ivy League championships, the indoor title in 2008 and the outdoor title in 2009. Kloss set an indoor record, clearing 3.95 meters in 2009, breaking a six-year mark, and holds the second-best outdoor record at Princeton at 3.85 meters.
Kiernan just wrapped up her junior year as a sociology major. She is a member of both the cross country and track and field teams and has won three Ivy League titles. She was named first-team All-Ivy and all-region in cross country and has been elected captain for the upcoming season. She is a two-time NCAA Regional qualifier in outdoor track.
