One of the great Ivy League rivalries in any sport will resume Saturday night at 5 p.m. as Harvard and Yale have traveled south to take on Princeton at DeNunzio Pool.
Besides for three won by Brown, these three programs have accounted for each of the 32 Ivy League women's swimming and diving titles. Since the turn of the century, either Princeton or Harvard has won every title, and Yale is rarely far from the top two.
These three teams seem primed once again to battle for the Ivy League Championship at the end of February. In the 14 individual swimming events that will make up 2/3 of the Ivy League championship meet, swimmers from the three schools make up at least the top three times in each.Consider the sprint and mid-distance free events for example. In the 50, 100 and 200, each school has one of the three top performers in the event. Showdowns between Megan Waters (Princeton), Alexandra Forrester (Yale) and Katherine Hinkle (Harvard) will be among the many exciting races upcoming Saturday night.
Princeton's other top Ivy League times are:
Megan Waters | 50 free | 22.68 |
Alicia Aemisegger | 200 free | 1:46.96 |
Alicia Aemisegger | 500 free | 4:38.54 |
Alicia Aemisegger | 1650 free | 16:01.79 |
Megan Waters | 100 back | 54.74 |
Alicia Aemisegger | 200 IM | 2:00.19 |
Alicia Aemisegger | 400 IM | 4:06.62 |
The Princeton women (4-0, 4-0 Ivy League) have won 28 straight dual meets, including four Ivy League showdowns this season, but they know that greater challenges lie ahead. With less than a month before the league championship meet, the Tigers, led by co-captains Alicia Aemisegger and Courtney Kilkuts, will test themselves against two of the Ivy's best in a rivalry that ranks with any in the league.
Harvard is currently 5-0, with all of its wins coming in the Ivy League, while Yale is 6-1, 4-0 against Ivy rivals.
