NEW YORK (10/1/10) - The Princeton field hockey team improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the Ivy League with a 6-1 win at Columbia on Friday night. Michelle Cesan had three goals in the win for Princeton.
Cesan put Princeton ahead for good three minutes into the game and made it 2-0 10 minutes later. Her first goal was a redirect of an Alyssa Pyros shot and her second was a rebound off a save by Columbia goalkeeper Christie O'Hara. Katie Reinprecht added her seventh goal of the season on a rebound and the Tigers led 3-0 at the half.
The Tigers made it 3-0 a minute into the second half on Molly Goodman's sixth goal off a feed from Julia Reinprecht on a penalty corner. Columbia then broke through two minutes later but goals from Kathleen Sharkey and Cesan sealed the win. Sharkey's goal was her 18th of the year and came off a pass from Pyros, while Cesan's goal on a rebound was her seventh of the year.
Jennifer King played 56 minutes in goal and made five saves for her first win of the season. Christina Maida did not face a shot in the remaining 14. Princeton outshot Columbia 24-10 and outcornered the Lions 11-7.
